H.E. Mr. Armen Yeganian

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the
Federative Republic of Brazil

 

On April 3, 2023, Armen Yeganian assumed the duties of Armenia’s Ambassador to Brazil. Before that Amb. Yeganian had served as Director of American Countries Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. Simultaneously, he also served as Secretary of US-Armenia Strategic Dialogue. Before that he had served as Director of Policy Planning Department and Adviser to the Foreign Minister. In 2017-2018, he was Chief of the State Protocol Service. Prior to that he had been Armenia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Canada, from 2011 to 2017. Amb. Yeganian served as Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in Montreal for the same period.

From 2007 to 2011, Mr. Yeganian was the Director of the American Countries Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  During this time, he also served as a Secretary of the United States-Armenia Task Force (USATF). In 2008, A.Yeganian studied at George Marshall European Center for Security Studies (Migration and International Security, Senior Executive Seminar, Munich).

From 2003 to 2006, Mr. Yeganian was posted to the Embassy of Armenia in USA, Washington, D.C., as a Counsellor. In June 2005 he was elected to the post of Vice President of Washington’s Consular Corps.

Prior to that, from 2000-2003, Mr. Yeganian served in different positions in the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry, becoming its Director in 2002. During this time, he helped establish the Governmental Commission on Combatting Trafficking-in-Persons. He also co-authored and implemented the e-Visa project in 2002, making Armenia second country after Australia that was issuing electronic visas at the time. Mr. Yeganian is an author of other numerous Consular and Immigration projects in Armenia.

Armen Yeganian has intensively trained Armenian Law Enforcement Agencies’ staff on Document Examination and Fraud Detection Program throughout 2001-2003 and became its first Senior Trainer in the Republic.

From 1997 to 2000, Armen Yeganian was assigned to the Armenian Embassy in US as Consul and Cultural Attaché. In 1999, he took the “Government Study” program under the State Department, Washington, D.C., USA.

In 1996-1997, Armen Yeganian worked at Armenia’s Embassy in Russia, Moscow, as an Attaché.

Mr. Yeganian joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in January of 1995 and worked in the Consular Department until April 1996.

From 1992-1994, Armen Yeganian has been employed at Care International organization (Yerevan).

In 1992, Armen Yeganian received Master’s degree from the Yerevan State University, graduating from the Armenian History Department. Prior to that, from 1985-1987, he was Modern History student in the Leningrad State University, with the focus on American Studies.

From 1987 to 1989, Mr. Yeganian was conscripted into the Soviet Army and was discharged as Sergeant.

Throughout his diplomatic career Armen Yeganian collaborated closely with Armenian, Russian, American, and Canadian academia, international scholars, experts, multitude of universities, think-tanks, lobbyist organizations, human rights NGO’s, institutions like ANI and Zoryan Institute. He organized and assisted in organization of number of conferences on Armenian Genocide, round tables, discussions on foreign policy of Armenia, endangered ethnic minorities, i.e., Armenians in Turkey and Syria, Yezidis in Iraq and Syria.

During the war in Syria Ambassador Yeganian was instrumental in helping Syrian-Armenians to resettle to Armenia (2014-2018) and Canada (2016-2017).

In 2011 he co-produced a comedy “Lost and Found in Armenia” by a Hollywood based company Red Tie (first time ever Hollywood filming in Armenia).

Armen Yeganian was born on June 26, 1968, in Tbilisi, Georgia into the noble family of Melik Yegans. The family then moved to Armenia and started the new life on the land of ancestors.

Armen Yeganian is married to Maria Yeganian and has three sons.

He is fluent in Armenian, Russian, and English languages.
