Briefing on the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biodiversity (COP17)

On 16 June, at the Rio Branco Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, at the initiative of the Embassy of Armenia and in cooperation with the MFA of Brazil, a briefing was held on the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biodiversity (COP17), which is scheduled to take place in October 2026 in Yerevan.

At the opening of the event, Armen Yeganian, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Brazil, and Ambassador Mauricio Lyrio, Secretary of Climate, Energy and Environment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, delivered welcoming speeches.

In his speech, Ambassador Armen Yeganian presented the progress of preparatory work for COP17 and Armenia's priorities in the field of biodiversity conservation, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and international cooperation.

Ambassador Mauricio Lyrio outlined Brazil's biodiversity policy and key priorities. He also presented the results and achievements of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), held last year in Belém.

Officials of the Ministry of Environment of Brazil also delivered speeches during the briefing, presenting the programs and initiatives being implemented to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

The event was attended by representatives of 60 foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Brazil, as well as representatives of Brazilian government agencies and academia.
